Default Help on Lake Picachos, Mazatlan

I'm going down in Jan, 2026. Can anyone offer info on flies, depth, lines? Are 4 to 6 inch streamers better, or do normal 2 to 3 inch Clousers and shad imitations work fine? Lots of wood around; do you need weed guards? TIA

I would check with Jim Christensen, Andy Guibord, or Terry Thomas at Flyfishing Specialties fly shop in Sacramento.

Some of those reservoirs have tilapia, which makes the bass very large.

I only went once, some time ago. It was very good, and the top water was happening then.

Top water fishing along the shorelines can be wonderful, but not always what is happening.

My guess today, I would take #7 and #8 fly rods, any good fly reel, Outbound Short floating line, and clear sinktip.

You could fish top waters and Clousers on a floating line?
