Thumbs up Calico Syndicate - Video

Check out Youtube for the Calico Syndicate. This video is one of several produced by a group of guys in SoCal who specialize in Fly fishing for Calico Bass in "boiler rocks" at places like Catalina Island.

They spent some time developing specialized lines to cast well and get down quick in turbulent water. Enjoy!!

    Thanks Darian

I have heard about fly fishing for Calico Bass in Southern California but never got there myself.

Here is a very serious film that Darian talked about, and this fishery is out on Catalina Island, 26 miles off the coast.

"A distinguishing feature of this species from other sea bass is that the kelp bass has piebald or multicoloured spotting under the belly, which is why it is alternatively called calico bass. This species attains a maximum total length of 72 centimetres (28 in) and a maximum published weight of 7.0 kilograms (15.4 lb)."

    Thumbs up Calico's/Corbina....

One person who promotes/guides fly fishing for Calico Bass at the L.A. Harbor breakwater is Glen Ueda. I'm fairly sure he fishes for them at any hour but the photographs of his/his partners in the boat catches are at night and the fish are large. Glen is famous for his presentations at local shops on (Marriott's, etc.) surf fishing with a fly. Much to explore while fly fishing down in SoCal....
