Feeling Good
I have always had this idea that someday I might go down to the Delta and get a pretty good striper and a pretty good largemouth on the same day. My dream was a 10-pound striper and a 5-pound largemouth. I have never gotten anywhere close to that and am kind of thinking I never will. Yesterday I decided I might have to settle for an 8/4. I also thought that might never happen, but it was still something to think about. Anyhow, today I got a pretty good double that is close enough to 8/4 for me to feel good about which is really the goal of all this fishing - feeling good. Both on the same fly which is now kind of a wreck and might not see any more fishing. The striper was at the first spot just after the sun came up. The bass was at the last spot. I saw the bass sitting on a shallow point and he spotted us of course and ignored my fly and swam off somewhere which was a bummer. I kept casting in the general area thinking he might still be around, and it turned out he was. I guess he changed his mind about my fly. Not the best pictures today but that is okay. I will blame it on bad lighting.

John,
Great day on the water! A nice specimen each species. Congratulations!

Feeling Good!!
WOW, CONGRATS!! 8/4 is a catch worthy of making anyone "feel good." I do think the fly deserves some consideration, tho. Hoping it'll be framed as an accompaniment to your photos.... :D

Great fish John! The kind of day that makes warm memories for sure! That must be your stand-up kayak!

Fall is the nicest time to go fishing or hunting.
Somebody said once, "It's too bad we have only one October."
In September, it starts to cool off up North and up in the higher elevations.
Temperatures are starting to drop slightly everywhere.
The real problem is that everything gets going in the Fall, and it is hard to choose what to do.
For some, there is bird hunting.
Then you have Fall steelhead in most of the Valley rivers, below the first dam.
Trout streams in the mid-elevations are waking up now.
Mid-elevation trout lakes are getting better.
Obviously, the Delta is turning on now, with October/November being the prime months.
I hope you can get some days on the calendar to enjoy this wonderful time of year.

Fall is a good time. Stripers should show up, largemouth bass are still active, Berryessa bass might come in to the shoreline, some Feather steelhead, maybe some Rogue steelhead and if the gods smile on me a trolled coho in the kayak and a few crabs. Or not much will happen and then it will be Christmas. We’ll see.
