Klamath and Trinity Reports
For those willing to brave the elements, fly fishing in the shadow of Shasta has been fair to good. While the fishing on the Klamath above I5 remained consistently good, finding a window to fish the Klamath below I5 or the Trinity below Rush Creek as been difficult as runoff and high flows have been issues.
The fair weather we have been experiencing recently has much improved conditions and access. Flows from Iron Gate on the Klamath are currently at 1180 and anglers are catching a mix of juveniles, half pounders and fresh winter wild adult steelhead running 2 to 5 lbs with a larger fish on occasion. Leggs and eggs have been the most consistent producers but a baetis mayfly hatch midafternoon has some fish taking small nymphs as well.
Fishing this fall on the Trinity was difficult even for the most seasoned locals. The biggest problem has been a lack of fish. The very good news is that the storms brought in many more fish and the bite has picked up as a result. Weir counts for Steelhead on the Trinity showed 71 fish in October, 85 fish in November with 704 fish showing in December. Though this is still fewer than we might like, the recent result has typically been multiple hookups per angler per day. Eggs, stonefly nymphs, PT's and Copper Johns have all found fish.

I just wanted to clarify that the Trinity weir count numbers you presented are actually the number of fish "processed" at the Trinity hatchery. the weir was pulled the week of October 22, 2010 and there is no data for November or December.
