I'm looking for new shooting lines besides Rio and Airflo. I prefer a .35 or .40.
Anybody have any suggestions.

Monic is a great running line and so is ELF running line. You would not be disappointed with either one. Mike

I had a monic line melt on the deschutes. so be careful where you leave it.

I personally hated the Monic and would not recommend it. All shooting lines tangle, what I look for is how easy they are to untangle. Rio Slick Shooter and the Trilenne are what I use but not have tried others.

I have a couple of Elf lines that work for me. I also use the orange Airflo ridgeline but it has a different feel. Elf for shootability and Airflo for mending.

I've been using construction twine. Virtually no memory at all. Easy to see in the bright colors and it's neutral bouyancy lets your fly sink plenty fast.
I've had some issues with tangles but since it's dirt cheap I just snip off the snarl, re-tie then commence stripping it in.

You can also use it to hold your creel up, or as a wader belt. In a pinch you can use it as a pants belt. Double it up enough times and it'll pull your car out of the sand. You can fish in the morning and lay out concrete forms before dinner time. There may be some uses that I haven't thought of.

I haven't tested it out yet but I'm hearing some great things about baling twine, but those guys are nuts.

Your welcome.

I use SA monocore .035 in the surf. It's been pretty good. I need to try Rio.

Ed , i agree but i think you should try the hemp twine tho. This way if your gettin skunked you can cut off a bit and put it in your pipe and smoke it;-). Not that skunky ,but you will have a better look on the day:-D Or a massive headache.

I used the Varivas 47# for about 8 hours this weekend without a problem. The air temperature was about 60 and water in the high 40's. It shoots very well.
