Finally got to the Trinity earlier this week for the first time and had a great time. The scenery was awesome with new fallen snow after last weekend's storm. Air temps ranged from 27deg in the morning to about 35deg in the afternoon, but I was just fine with all my cold weather gear.

The fishing was a little slow, catching 2 steelhead over the 3 days of trying, 22" first and then a 28" last, a personal best, so am very happy. My buddy also caught a 14" brown and a few smolts on drys during the midday hatch.

We had no competition for spots and rarely saw anyone on the river the whole time except midday on our last day, just an occasional drift boat going by.

I also used for the first time a new rod setup and was very pleased with the results. It's a 10' 6wt with a sharkskin steelhead taper line which was a joy cast; whether spey, roll or overhand, I could easily reach across the entire river and mend in any situation to get long drifts.

Here some pics.

It's snowing right now on the river and it's 26 degrees. The river is still low and clear, but starting to get some color if you can see through the ice!

Fished Wed in the cold but had great day with three to the bank, two wild and one hatchery fish. No one else there except my buddy and a few drift boats. Not a lot of fish around but no crowds either. Prefer fewer fish and less people than the last couple of years.

Very nice...cold weather conditions, miserable driving with snow, lethargic fish that you must present to precisely, now we're talkin'!
I all but gave up the Trinity when "endless summer" and more endless numbers of fish and even more endless numbers of indicator fishermen dominated the scene last year...I guess I'm kinda like Tina Turner..."Some like it rough!"
